| Background Information | The Children's Society, the working name of the Church of England Children's Society, is a leading children's charity. Originally established by Edward Rudolph, with the support of Archbishop Tate, as the Church of England Central Home for Waifs and Strays, the Society's role has evolved in response to social change. The rise of the welfare state saw a decline in the Society's provision of children's homes, and a shift towards community-based family support services. The Society also campaigns for social justice, and currently focuses its efforts on the four areas of homelessness, disability, crime and refugees. Charity no. 221124, company no. 00040004.
