| Background Information | FRAME (Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments) aims for the eventual elimination of animal experimentation, through the promotion of the '3Rs': the reduction of animal use; the refinement of experimental procedures to increase animal welfare; and the replacement of animals with other testing methods.
FRAME was founded by Dorothy Hegarty and Charles Foster. The 3Rs concept came from Principles of Humane Experimental Techniques, by William Russell and Rex Burch.
In 1998 FRAME co-founded the Focus on Alternatives committee.
